KAMPALA – A total of 33 lives were lost, and 156 people sustained serious injuries between the 24th and 26th of this festive season.
According to the Police report, pedestrians and riders accounted for 85% of the fatalities, with the majority being from upcountry areas.
The Police emphasize that highways remained peaceful.
SP Micheal Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, highlighted a major road crash in Kapachorwa during this season.
The single fatal crash occurred on the 26th of December 2023 at 4:00 pm at Towei Corner Kapsindi along Kapchorwa – Mbale Road.
The accident involved a Prado Land Cruiser with registration number UBD 074J, claiming the lives of five individuals, including four children and their mother.
Four additional people, including the driver, were also affected.
Kananura noted that, overall, there were fewer road crashes registered by the Police compared to the last season, thanks to early interventions.
