LWENGO – Police in Greater Masaka are currently conducting an investigation into a significant accident that transpired along the Kampala-Mbarara Road on August 28th, 2023, around 11:00 AM.
The incident involved a Global bus registered under the number UBB 985M, which occurred at Kyekurura, shortly after passing Kinoni center in Lwengo District, a part of Greater Masaka.
Authorities have attributed the accident to the driver’s loss of control, primarily due to the treacherous road conditions exacerbated by heavy rainfall. According to SP Kasirye Twaha, the spokesperson for Greater Masaka Police, one individual sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision.
Twaha further noted that local officials and bystanders promptly responded to the scene, swiftly transporting the injured individual to nearby medical facilities. He also mentioned that arrangements are underway to summon ambulances that will transfer the injured party to Masaka Referral Hospital for more comprehensive medical treatment.
In light of this incident, Twaha emphasized the importance of cautious driving, especially on slippery roads during the current rainy season.
He urged all drivers to refrain from speeding, as this precautionary measure could effectively prevent similar accidents from occurring. As the investigation progresses, additional updates will be communicated in due course.
