KISORO – Kisoro Municipality authorities are under fire from the business community and leaders for their selective demolition of illegal kiosks.
In an operation led by Town Clerk Ayubu Kisubi, supported by Anti-riot police, municipal, and division law enforcement officers, Kisoro Municipal council on Wednesday targeted makeshift kiosks, containers, and semi-permanent buildings along various roads, including Kisoro-Bunagana and Kabale-Kisoro. The victims encompassed food vendors, chapati sellers, mobile money operators, and fresh food dealers.
Ayubu defended the operation, emphasizing its goal of restoring order in the town, citing the illegal construction and absence of approved plans for the structures. However, the business community and leaders raised concerns about the authorities’ apparent inconsistency in demolishing metallic kiosks while sparing wooden ones along the same roads.
Leaders, such as Southern Division district councilor James Agaba and businessman Wilson Kazimire, accused municipal authorities of failing to notify victims, despite them having paid for licenses.

In response to queries, Kisoro Municipality Mayor Richard Ndyana declined to comment. Town Clerk Ayubu Kisubi defended the lack of legal notifications, asserting that the kiosks were constructed illegally.
