KABALE: Residents and local leaders of Kyanamira Sub County in Kabale district have risen up to manually renovate the Kyanamira-Maziba Bridge along the Maziba-Kyanamira-old Kabale road following the delay by the government to renovate the bridge.
The Bridge in question connects Katookye and Kyanamira parishes in Kyanamira Sub County and it is majorly used by people who transport pineapples and bananas on bicycles from Maziba Sub County and traders operating in Kabanyonyi market.
The Kyanamira Sub County chairperson Deusdedeti Kamugisha and the Sub County speaker Abel Asiimw’ata Begyere told our reporter that the wooden bridge has been a threat to the lives of people who transport pineapples and bananas from Maziba Sub County to Kabale town because all the wood that was used to construct it had rotten and others eaten up by rodents. They added that their efforts to have the bridge renovated have been in vain until recently when Elvis Twenda, a well-wisher decided to mobilize locals and local leaders to come up and buy the logos and timber to renovate the bridge in order to ease mobility of people and their goods.
Josephate Kanyesigye who sells pineapples from Maziba Sub County to Kabale town said that whenever he would reach the bridge, it would take him more than 30 minutes to offload the pineapples and reload them.
Elvis Twenda, a well-wisher told our reporter that he was informed by the Kyanamira Sub County chairperson Deusdedeti Kamugisha about the poor state of the bridge which triggered him to come to the rescue of people who use the same bridge.
