ISINGIRO: Police in Isingiro District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic murder of an 80-year-old woman in Birere Sub County.
The deceased, Joy Kitarinyenda, was a resident of Kasaana I Cell in Birere Sub County, Isingiro District. According to a statement from the police, the elderly woman was found deceased inside her home with the doors locked from the outside, discovered yesterday at approximately 10:00 AM.
Reportedly, the deceased was last seen on Saturday in the company of Richard Bamwine, her 42-year-old companion, near her residence. However, when the body was discovered, Bamwine was absent and claimed he had departed to celebrate Easter holidays.
Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for the Rwizi region Police, disclosed that upon examination, the deceased exhibited scratch marks on her neck and other parts, indicating possible strangulation.
The body has been transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Kasasira further stated that while the motive behind the crime remains unclear, two suspects have been apprehended to aid in the ongoing investigation. The individuals in custody include Nuwabeine Ephranse, the daughter of the deceased, and Bamwine Richard, the deceased’s companion.
