Farmer Brutally Assaulted in Kanungu

KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu district are hunting for unknown assailant that assaulted Agaba Ivan, a 52-year-old male peasant farmer from Katwa village, Bushura parish, Kirima sub-county.

The incident occurred on November 19, 2023, around 2:00 am, approximately 20 meters from Agaba’s home.

Despite the victim’s attempt to raise an alarm, the assailant escaped before Agaba’s biological sister, Oribariho Eudia, could intervene.

The case of assault was promptly reported to Kirima police post, and Agaba was initially treated at Kanungu Health Centre IV before being transferred to Kabale regional referral hospital.

Unfortunately, on November 25, 2023, Agaba succumbed to his injuries along the Ntungamo-Mbarara highway en route to Mbarara regional referral hospital. His body was transported back to his residence for burial.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson says a team of detectives, led by D/SP David Dauna, Tumusabe Francis (D/SOCO Kanungu), and homicide detectives, investigated the crime scene.

A postmortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to relatives for a proper burial.

Maate says that the assailant remains at large, and the case is registered at Kanungu District Police Station under the reference number Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) 762/2023.
