KABALE – Police in Kabale District have arrested Federisi Akankwasa, the commercial officer of Kabale Municipality, from his concealment after spending several months on the run.
He stands accused of deceiving and issuing a bounced cheque amounting to UGX 49M to Leo Mbabazi, a Kigongi B” cell resident in Kabale Municipality.
Reportedly, Federisi sold a property in Kakoba, Mbarara City, to the complainant in December 2022, initially agreed upon at 550M. After depositing 100M, he resold the estate to another party, reneging on the prior agreement.
Instead of reimbursing the complainant’s 100M, Federisi allegedly paid back only 50,250,000= and issued a cheque for the remaining 49M, which bounced in February 2023.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, affirmed that the case was reported on 13/03/2023, and the fugitive was apprehended in Katuna.
The suspect is currently held at Kabale Central Police Station, awaiting legal proceedings once the investigation concludes.
