KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District are hunting for a 30-year-old Dan Kakyiga, who is accused of murdering 67-year-old Stephen Begumisa Stephen in Kihanda Sub County.
The suspect, a resident of Myakarambi village, Nyakatoma parish is still at large as investigations into the matter have been launched according to Police.
Yesterday, at approximately 4:00 PM, Kakyiga allegedly fatally attacked the victim, inflicting deep cut wounds on the face and head, and severing his right arm.
The police statement indicates a history of domestic conflicts between the suspect and the deceased, rooted in accusations of witchcraft.
Despite previous reconciliation efforts at Kanungu police station, the tensions persisted, leading to this tragic incident.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and noted that the crime scene has been investigated, witness statements recorded, and the body taken for postmortem at Kanungu Health Centre IV mortuary.
In the ongoing investigation, the suspect’s mother has been arrested, whereas Dan Kakyiga remains at large.
