KISORO – The Kisoro court has adjourned a case involving a man in his 50s accused of malicious damage to property.
Presided over by His Worship Magistrate Grade One Bob Asiimwe, the court heard on March 24, 2021, that the accused, Saveri Habimana, a resident of Kiriba Village, Buhumbu Parish, Busanza Subcounty, Kisoro District, allegedly cut down trees belonging to Paskari Maniraguha of the same address in Busaro village.
During examination, State Prosecutor Ellen Nambi and witness Deo Habumugisha (PW.6), the LC1 chairperson of Kiriba village, testified that Habimana was seen physically cutting trees in the garden by witnesses and was even photographed by some individuals using smartphones.
However, Counsel Anthony Aryanyijuka from Beitwenda and Company Advocates disputed the authenticity of the photo presented to court, arguing that it did not clearly show the accused engaged in tree-cutting.
His Worship, after reviewing the evidence, advised the counsel to confer with the complainant to obtain additional evidence and instructed the accused to seek legal representation or remain silent. The court adjourned the matter for the next hearing on March 7, 2024.
