KISORO: Police in Kisoro District have arrested a 65-year-old man for killing his biological son, amidst domestic turmoil in Chahi Sub County.
The suspect, identified as Ngaruye Benon Singirankabo, hails from Busamba village, Muganza parish, Chahi Sub County, Kisoro district. He stands accused of the fatal assault on his son, Nkurunziza Ronald (30), a resident of Nyagisenyi village, Muganza Parish, Chahi Sub County, Kisoro district, which occurred at 4:00 AM today.
According to a statement issued by the police, the deceased, in an inebriated state, returned home around 3:00 AM and began aggressively banging on his father’s door, demanding food. Given his history of violence, the family hesitated to open the door. However, the deceased forced entry, proceeding to vandalize his parents’ bedroom door.
In self-defense, the father engaged in a physical altercation with his son, ultimately pushing him out of the house, where he tragically plummeted down a cliff. The discovery of his lifeless body around 7:00 AM prompted the deceased’s brother to report the incident to Kisoro CPS.
Reports suggest a longstanding history of domestic discord between the two, with the deceased having previously driven his parents away from home for a year. Upon his departure to Kampala, the parents returned. The deceased’s habitual substance abuse and excessive drinking compounded the volatile situation, leading to frequent episodes of violence against his parents.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi region police, confirmed that the crime scene was meticulously examined, eyewitness testimonies were recorded, and the suspect was promptly arrested and detained in police custody. The deceased’s body was recovered and transported to Kisoro hospital for a thorough postmortem examination.
