KISORO – The Grade One Magistrates court in Kisoro district, presided over by His Worship Dismas Muchelule, has sentenced a Rwandan national, Patrick Munyamana, in his 20s, to three months for illegal entry into Uganda.
Munyamana was apprehended in Nyagashenyi village, Kisoro District, on 15th Aug, 2023, lacking a valid National ID, passport, or entry permit, a violation of Ugandan laws.
State prosecutor Best Kemigisha Niwagaba urged the court to impose a severe penalty as a deterrent. Despite Munyamana’s plea for leniency, His Worship Dismas handed down a sentence, considering the swift court proceedings.
Munyamana, already serving a 10-month sentence on another count, will now serve an additional 3 months for illegal entry, followed by transfer to Rwandan authorities upon completing both sentences.
In a related case, His Worship Dismas Muchelule adjourned a murder attempt case involving Benon Monday, a resident of Nombe village, Nombe parish, Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District.
On 3rd Aug, 2023, Monday, in his 20s, allegedly attempted to kill Edinah Tukamuhebwa, 31, and her daughter Mercy Dusabe.
State prosecutor Best Kemigisha Niwagaba revealed that Monday had made multiple attempts to harm Tukamuhebwa. Tukamuhebwa requested the court to impose the necessary punishment on the accused, who is currently on bail, to deter future acts.
His Worship Dismas asked the complainant to bring witnesses for the next hearing and adjourned the matter to 19th Dec, 2023.
