Man Fatally Poisons Himself in Kanungu

KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District are probing the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning of 30-year-old Bright Turyatunga, a resident of Kinyabutongo village, Kyibimbiri parish in Matanda sub-county.

Turyatunga, reportedly in a love affair with Ingabire Sharon from the same area, visited her home without consent on 22/10/2023 at around 10:00 PM, but she refused to open for him.

The following day, 23/10/2023, at about 08:00 AM, Turyatunga was discovered in critical condition in the compound of Ingabire Sharon. Despite community members attempting first aid, he succumbed instantly.

According to Deus Owoyesigire, the area chairperson, the deceased had previously attempted suicide and had declared his intention to do so on 22/10/2023.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that the police were notified, visited the scene, and documented the incident.

A postmortem was conducted at the crime scene, and the body was handed over to relatives for burial arrangements.

Maate also mentioned the recovery of suspected swallowed chemical (fludan) exhibits at the crime scene, which will be submitted to GAL for analysis.
