One Killed in Agago Padlock Repair Payment Dispute

AGAGO – Police in Agago district has arrested Okello Aldo Akech, a 32-year-old peasant from Ocoyo Lamero village for allegedly stabbing Okwera Tarasisto, a 53-year-old peasant from Nyer Ikan South village, on October 23, 2023, at 2:30 pm.

The suspect had repaired the victim’s padlock for Ugx 2000 but became violent when the victim gave him only Ugx 1000, promising the rest later.

The suspect, demanding the full amount, seized a knife from the victim, chased, and fatally stabbed him in the left side of the rib.

Community members apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the LC1 Chairperson.

Despite attempts to rush the victim to Kalongo hospital, he died on the way, and an angry mob attacked the suspect, who was later rescued by Lapono police post. The police recovered the knife as evidence.

SCP Fred Enanga, Uganda Police spokesperson, condemned elder abuse and vowed to expedite legal proceedings to ensure the suspect faces consequences for this Violence.
