Road Rage Suspect Charged with Murder in Kampala

KAMPALA – The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police – South and Katwe Division have charged Menya Moses for a road rage-related murder that occurred on 15.07.2023 at Kironde Zone, Kabowa, Lubaga division.

The incident involved Ssentongo Reagan, also known as Abtex, who was in a taxi with other mourners heading to a burial. They had a minor accident with a boda-boda rider, Wasswa, who was carrying a female passenger. An argument ensued, and Ssentongo aggressively pushed Wasswa, causing him to hit his head and collapse.

The boda-boda passenger, Teopista, raised an alarm, claiming Wasswa had died. Angry residents from Kisenyi metal yard chased Ssentongo, but he managed to flee. Eventually, the residents overpowered and beat him when he was arrested by PC Baluku.

Ssentongo sustained critical injuries, was handed over to police, and taken to Mulago Hospital, where he sadly passed away on 23.07.2023. The deceased body was retrieved by relatives and protested in Kisenyi before being taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post mortem.

SCP Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson, strongly condemned such acts of lawlessness and stated that anyone endangering the lives of motorists on the road would be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The suspect appeared in court for murder on 28.07.2023.
