ISINGIRO – Police in Isingiro District have detained 18-year-old Kutaayo Ssebagara, a resident of Kakunyu Cell, Rwekuubo Ward, Isingiro Town Council, for being in possession of goats suspected to be stolen.
The animals were found in a grey Toyota Premio with registration number UBD 345E.
Samson Kasasira, spokesperson for the Rwizi region, explained that the incident unfolded when police officers signaled the vehicle to stop at Kahirimbi along the Isingiro-Bukanga road.
The driver sped away towards Kityaza, leading to a high-speed pursuit by the police due to their suspicious behavior.
The vehicle eventually stopped at Mbaare Trading Center after turning onto the Mbaare-Buganga Road. The driver and two male passengers abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Police apprehended one suspect, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered nine goats believed to be stolen.
Additionally, it was revealed that the same vehicle had been involved in a traffic accident, causing damage. This incident is also under investigation.
The impounded motor vehicle is currently at the Isingiro Central police station, while the exhibited goats await potential identification by their owner.
Efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining two suspects who are on the run are ongoing.
