KABALE: The Uganda Radio Network journalist is currently nursing wounds after being assaulted by unknown thugs last night in Kabale District.

Samuel Amanya, the Chief Bureau Officer of Uganda Radio Network in Kigezi Sub-region, recounted the harrowing experience. He described how, at around midnight, he was confronted by a thug wielding a machete as he attempted to enter his residence in Kabale Municipality.

Despite sustaining multiple lacerations, Amanya managed to fend off his attacker by raising an alarm. The assailant fled the scene empty-handed, leaving Amanya injured and shaken. Subsequently, he was promptly rushed to Dr. Ruhemurana Clinic in Kabale Municipality for medical attention.

In response to the incident, Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Honorable Dr. Nicholas Kamara, condemned the assault, attributing it to underlying issues of governance. He emphasized the urgent need for improved intelligence-gathering and community policing initiatives to stem the rising tide of criminal activity in the area.

However, Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Region Police, sought to allay fears by asserting that there is no cause for alarm. He assured the public that individual cases, once reported, are diligently investigated by the authorities. Maate cautioned against solitary movements and advised against traversing poorly illuminated areas during nighttime.
