KAMWENGE – Police in Kamwenge District have identified the victims of a suspected ADF attack in Kyitehurizi village, Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county, Kamwenge District.
Twesige Vicent, the Rwenzori West (Fortportal) Regional Police Spokesperson, reported that the deceased include Banyazaki Margaret, aged 60, and another individual identified only as Tugume, a 25-year-old, along with eight others yet to be identified.
According to Twesige, preliminary findings suggest that ten assailants, armed with SMG rifles, attacked and fatally burned ten people in Kyitehurizi trading center, Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county, located near Kibale National Park.
Following the incident, the assailants broke into the store of Baguma Richard, 35 years old, looting 300 Kgs of beans, a sack of Irish potatoes, 03 trays of eggs, and 50 Kgs of maize. Additionally, they set ablaze a motorcycle with registration number UFC 851T.
Twesige mentioned that after the attack, the assailants headed towards Kibale National Park. Upon receiving the information, officers responded promptly to the scene, deploying canine units alongside UPDF personnel. He added that a manhunt led by Joint Security Agencies is currently underway.
In related development, the Kibale County Member of Parliament, Hon Eng Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and called for increased vigilance among the public.
He urged everyone to identify and report any suspects in their respective areas.
Eng Abigaba commended the security team in the district, including the RDC, DPC, DISO, and UPDF, for their swift response and appropriate deployment, expressing hope for success in overcoming the enemy.
