Violent Robbery Claims Lives in Wakiso

WAKISO – The Katwe Police are actively investigating a disturbing incident involving aggravated robbery and murder that occurred on January 18, 2024, at around 6 PM in Ndejje Kibutika Village, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

Preliminary findings reveal that employees of Shana Distributors Ltd, Kikuubo – Galabuzi Haruna (driver), Babirye Patricia (salesperson), and Mfitumukiza Henry (offloader) – were ambushed by armed assailants during their routine product distribution.

The assailants, demanding money, turned violent when faced with resistance from the workers. Despite warning shots, Babirye Patricia was shot in the leg, and the assailants took a significant amount of money, around 20 million Ugandan shillings, from the vehicle, fleeing on a motorcycle with registration UES 820K.

Upon raising an alarm, a pursuit followed, leading to the robbers abandoning the motorcycle. Local residents and riders in Namasuba apprehended the suspects, resulting in a confrontation. Tragically, two suspects, Bakka Mark and Ssemanda Brain, succumbed to injuries at the scene, while another passed away upon arrival at Mulago Hospital.

The police recovered identification and voter cards from the deceased, and the alleged robbery weapon has been secured as evidence. Unfortunately, the stolen cash remains unrecovered, as it is believed to have been taken by members of the public during the confrontation.

Injured victims are receiving urgent medical attention, and detailed statements on the incident have been documented. The police are committed to providing further updates as the investigation unfolds.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, urging the public to remain calm and cooperative as efforts are made to ensure justice in this distressing matter.
