KISORO – The former Inspector General of Police, Retired General Kale Kayihura has vehemently denied recent reports claiming he was granted a pardon for all charges against him.
Kayihura, who had been facing two counts related to the failure to protect war materials and aiding the kidnapping and repatriation of Rwandan exiles, refugees, and Ugandan citizens to Rwanda between 2012 and 2016, asserts that the charges were dropped due to his innocence. According to him, he was falsely accused by individuals pursuing their own interests.
Speaking at Shaza Playground in Kisoro Municipality during his homecoming celebration, Kayihura made these statements yesterday. The Court Martial in Kampala acquitted him of all charges in August this year, ultimately setting him free.
During his address, Kayihura commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his integrity and deliberate decision-making process, devoid of haste. He also expressed gratitude to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), whose systems prioritize justice. Kayihura specifically praised members of the military force, including Lieutenant Andrew Gutti, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, General Akandwanaho Caleb, also known as Salim Sale, among others.
