Kigezi Police Warns Public Against Tire Burning During New Year Celebrations

KIGEZI – Police in the Kigezi Sub-region have issued a warning, urging the public to refrain from burning tires along roads during New Year celebrations.

In an official statement, the police emphasized that those caught engaging in this activity will face legal consequences.

Police also cautioned against the reckless use of firearms by police officers during celebrations and advised against drinking and careless driving. They emphasized a heavy deployment and standby status during the festivities.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, affirmed these guidelines and advised against people forming groups and chanting while walking, as they could attract unwanted elements.

Maate further cautioned against leaving homes unattended, especially with young ones, to prevent potential harm from malicious individuals.

While encouraging the public to stay security-conscious, Maate urged vigilance during celebrations, prompting people to report any suspicious persons or objects that may pose a threat.

He also directed entertainment centers and religious gatherings conducting overnight prayers to enhance their security measures and collaborate with territorial police commanders.
