Mobile Money Scams on the Rise, Police Calls For Vigilance in Kisoro

KISORO – The Kisoro District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Mugerwa Benard has showed the need between the public and the police to combat instances of criminality within the District.

This sentiment was conveyed Yesterday during the selection of new leadership for the business community within the central division of Kisoro district, held at the park area. The election resulted in the election of a seven-member committee.

SSP Mugerwa underlined the responsibility of both the business community and the general public in Kisoro District to join forces with law enforcement to bolster the security within their community. He urged the community to promptly report incidents where police officers treat them with disrespect, assuring them that the police force is eager to collaborate with all sectors of the community in Kisoro district.

Lamathan Ndikuyeze, Chairman of NRM Kisoro Municipality, expressed gratitude towards those contributing to the development and cleanliness of the park area. He appealed to the health office to consider reopening additional toilet facilities due to the increased population in the area, which the existing facilities struggle to accommodate.

Ndikuyeze advised the newly elected committee to maintain close cooperation and effectively communicate occurrences in the area to the relevant authorities. He also cautioned mobile money operators against sending fraudulent messages to customers, which has contributed to the rise in robberies within the vicinity.

Angelo Mfitudinda, the Town Clerk of Central Division in Kisoro Municipality, urged the health department to take action by penalizing businesses lacking proper waste disposal bins. He also admonished business owners against selling expired products. Mfitudinda encouraged the business community to take charge of registering, bidding, and overseeing services autonomously.

Achali Moses, the Health Inspector of Kisoro District, emphasized the critical significance of upholding sanitation and hygiene to ensure community health. He warned businesses against allowing anyone to sleep within the market premises, asserting that those found violating regulations would face arrest.
