Four Visually Impaired Pupils sit for PLE in Kabale

KABALE – Four visually impaired pupils are among the Twenty-eight Primary Seven candidates who are currently sitting their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at Hornby High School Junior in Kabale Municipality.

The School Headteacher Geoffrey Beinomugisha stated that the visually impaired pupils began their PLE exams using Braille as their chosen writing method.

The school, with a history of admitting visually impaired students since 1969, currently has 26 such pupils out of a total enrollment of 280.

Beinomugisha emphasized the school’s commitment to providing education for visually impaired pupils and urged parents to treat them equally.

He noted that the advocacy for equal treatment has been ongoing since the school’s inception.Cutting to an interview with Beinomugisha on blind candidates, he reiterates the importance of fair treatment for visually impaired students in education.

Dr. Dan Odong, Secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), reported an increase in the number of candidates with Special Needs Education (SNE) requirements, with 2,580 candidates registered this year compared to 2,316 candidates in the previous year.
