Six Visually Impaired Students sit for UACE Exams in Kabale

KABALE – Six visually impaired students at Hornby High School are among the candidates who have commenced their UACE Exams in Kabale District.

The school head teacher, Atureebire George Tumusiime, reported that all 20 registered candidates have successfully undertaken their final UACE Exams, and the examination process in Kabale District proceeded without any disruptions. However in the afternoon, Exams delayed to start in different parts of Kabale due to heavy rains and poor road network.

Tumusiime highlighted that the exams began smoothly, with assistance of transcribers from the National Examination Board assisting visually impaired candidates in progressing through their exams.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), a total of 110,569 candidates registered for the UACE examination, indicating a notable increase of 11.4% (12,680) compared to the 97,889 candidates registered last year.

UNEB further disclosed that 22.3% of the candidates are Non-UPOLET, while 77.7% are privately sponsored. In terms of gender distribution, 43% (47,227) of the candidates are females, and 57% (631,342) are males. Notably, 34 of the candidates are inmates from Upper Prison School Luzira, including 4 females and 30 males.
