Inner Wheel Club of Mengo and Rotary Club of Miami Donate Water Harvesting Tanks to Chahafi Health Center IV in Kisoro

KISORO – On November 25, 2023, the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo officially commissioned two 20,000L water harvesting tanks at Chahafi Health Center IV in Kisoro district.

This significant addition to the health center’s infrastructure was made possible through a donation from the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo with support from the Rotary Club of Miami, USA.

President Jennifer Apollo Okello expressed gratitude to club members for their generous contribution towards providing Chahafi Health Center IV with these essential water harvesting tanks.

Established in 1991, the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo has been dedicated to fostering true friendship, promoting personal service ideals, and encouraging international understanding.

The club’s current theme is to ‘shine a light.’Dr. Dona Kayitesi, a member of the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo and a native of Chahafi now residing in Kampala, played a key role in securing the donation.

She highlighted her motivation to join the Inner Wheel Club, emphasizing its commitment to serving humanity and building friendships.

Dr. Kayitesi and her husband, One Semucyo, are Rotarians.Each year, the club undertakes projects aimed at alleviating pain or assisting communities, with water harvesting systems being a typical initiative.

Dr. Kayitesi proposed supporting Chahafi Health Center IV with water harvesting tanks, a suggestion warmly accepted by club members.

Dr. Emmanuel Mfitundinda, in charge of Chahafi Health IV, expressed gratitude to the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo for the donation.

He emphasized the crucial role water will play in various aspects of the health facility, including washing surgical tools, hand hygiene, food preparation, laundry, and other essential services for caretakers.

Local residents praised the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo for their generous support, particularly acknowledging the importance of water harvesting tanks during times of water shortage at the health facility.

Joyce Mawanda, the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo treasurer, took the opportunity to encourage married couples to support and listen to each other for a healthy relationship and shared development.

The commissioning team, led by President Jennifer Apollo of the Inner Wheel Club, was warmly received by Rotarian Beatrice Kabihogo, President of the Rotary Club of Mgahinga Kisoro.

Other notable attendees included Monica Byaruhanga, secretary of the Inner Wheel Club of Mengo, Rotarian Sanyu from Mengo Rotary Club, and Rotarians Alex Mushiime and Semahoro Aloysius from the Rotary Club of Mgahinga Kisoro. The event marked a collaborative effort in service to the community.
