RUKIGA – In celebration of the International Day of Rural Women, Maama Omurungi Initiative Uganda, under the theme “Empowering Rural Women to Achieve Healthy Lives and General Wellbeing,” conducted a meaningful outreach on October 27, 2023.
On this occasion, the organization distributed reusable cotton diapers to rural women in Noozi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub County, and various villages of Mparo Town Council in Rukiga District.
The International Day of Rural Women, observed annually on the 15th of October, is a dedicated day to honor the millions of women residing in remote rural areas. Its purpose is to remind them that they are not alone and that they can always seek support. The day serves as a platform to challenge stereotypes, break gender barriers, and defy social norms that may restrict the potential of rural women.
During the distribution event held at the Kasoni Church of Uganda immunization center, Milliam Ndyamuhaki, the team leader of Maama Omurungi Initiative Uganda, shared insights into the organization’s decision to provide reusable cotton diapers to rural women.
Ndyamuhaki emphasized the health benefits for babies and highlighted the cost-effectiveness of these diapers.
In her address, Ndyamuhaki also offered valuable advice to mothers, urging them to prioritize the full immunization of their children for optimal health. She further encouraged mothers to ensure their children receive a balanced diet, underscoring the importance of holistic child development.
