RUBANDA: Rubanda District Local Government has received a digital X-ray Machine in a bid to bolster healthcare services, according to the District LC5 Chairman, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba.
Kasyaba attributes the acquisition of the digital X-ray Machine from the Ministry of Health as recognition for the district’s outstanding performance in the healthcare sector. In addition to this technological boon, the district also received an additional reward of 140 million Shillings. The machine is stationed at Muko Health Centre IV, also known as Kamugongo.
Rubanda District clinched the top spot in Kigezi Sub-region for healthcare services during the 2023/2024 financial year. Kasyaba emphasizes the immediate benefits of the digital X-ray Machine, particularly evident in its role during the ongoing six-day Tuberculosis outreach program, aptly named Community Awareness Screening, Treating, and Prevention (CAST) TB in the district . He anticipates a reduction in referral rates within the district owing to such enhanced services.

The Rubanda District health officer Dr. Abdon Birungi says that the Tuberculosis outreach program dubbed Community Awareness Screening Treating and Prevention (CAST) TB is ongoing in two Sub counties of Bubaare and Bufundi, which have the highest prevalence rate of TB in the whole district. Dr. Birungi said Tuberculosis continues to be a major public health problem in Uganda, yet a third of TB cases go undetected.
He added that 250 new cases of TB are reported daily countrywide, resulting in 30 tragic fatalities each day. Dr Birugi said With TB cases surpassing those of malaria, should embrace TB screening and treatment to confront this pressing challenge.
