KABALE – Amid the growing excitement surrounding the upcoming National Youth Day celebrations, the organizing committee has taken a proactive stride by meticulously planning the widespread distribution of hundreds of thousands of condoms throughout Kabale district.
This strategic move aims to promote the adoption of safe practices among the young leaders who will be gracing the event, a gathering anticipated to draw participants from every corner of Uganda.
These condoms, now referred to as preventive tools against HIV transmission, will be thoughtfully dispersed across the various centers that will play host to the youth leaders during and following the National Youth Day festivities.
The grand event, scheduled to unfold at the sprawling grounds of Kigezi High School Primary on August 18, 2023, envisions a diverse congregation of youthful voices converging to delve into the theme of “Accelerating Recovery from the Impact of Covid-19 and the Full Realization of the 2030 Agenda: Empowering the Youth.”
In an insightful commentary provided by Christopher Namara, Kabale District Community Development Officer, it was highlighted that the organizing committee had discerned the significance of the “Kasiki” pre-event celebration.
This jubilant prelude serves as a unique opportunity for youth leaders to come together in exuberance. Keeping this in mind, a collective decision was reached to make condoms, now termed as preventive tools against HIV, conveniently accessible during the “Kasiki” gathering. This provision is intended to encourage responsible and safe conduct among the attendees.
Namara elaborated, “Our understanding is that during the vibrant Kasiki festivities preceding the main event, the youth will immerse themselves in celebration and revelry. It is of paramount importance to equip them with these health tools to safeguard their well-being.”
Namara added “The condoms will be made available through both governmental channels and through collaborative efforts with organizations dedicated to advancing public health”.
This choice to distribute condoms serves as a resounding testament to the organizing committee’s unwavering dedication to nurturing a secure and all-encompassing environment for the youth.
The impending National Youth Day celebrations are poised to attract a staggering assemblage of over 50,000 attendees hailing from various corners of the nation.
This extraordinary gathering is slated to serve as a dynamic platform, fostering profound dialogues and the fluid exchange of innovative concepts.
Distinguished by the gracious presence of His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, who will serve as the esteemed guest of honor, the event promises to be an occasion of immense significance.
