KIGEZI – Police in the Kigezi Sub-region have warned taxi and bus operators against jeopardizing the safety of Learners ahead of the third term, set to commence next Monday.
The authorities are cracking down on overloading, a practice that jeopardizes the safety of students returning to school.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi Region Police, has announced that traffic personnel have already been deployed extensively, with orders to apprehend any drivers found violating the law by overloading.
According to Maate, errant drivers will face prosecution, emphasizing the need for responsible and safe transportation for the children.
Maate cautioned parents against entrusting their school fees to unruly or undisciplined children in cash form. Instead, he urged parents to take the initiative of depositing the school fees in a bank for security purposes.
In addition to this, the business community received a stern warning not to engage in the sale of expired or counterfeit goods that could pose risks to the lives of the students. The public is encouraged to report any such illegal activities to the police so that appropriate legal actions can be taken.
Maate also provided valuable advice, urging all payments to be made through the bank to avoid falling victim to con artists. Learners and parents were advised to seek assistance from bank officials or on-duty security guards for any inquiries at the bank.
