JINJA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday praised the people of Busoga during the 38th NRM victory anniversary in Jinja, recognizing their crucial role in the protracted struggle that led to the NRM government’s establishment in 1986.
Commending the ongoing support, he emphasized the importance of embracing the four-acre model for sustainable livelihoods and urged locals to carefully heed the NRM’s message for poverty alleviation.
President Museveni also addressed concerns, cautioning against encroachment on swamps and rallying support against those undermining Universal Primary Education.
He pledged government action on missing drugs in health facilities, assured peace with army involvement, and envisioned job creation through commercial agriculture.
Acknowledging opposition tactics, Museveni shared an incident where an accident victim confessed to being used by the opposition to falsely accuse the government of torture. He emphasized the strength of the NRM despite external pressures.
Vice President Jessica Alupo congratulated Museveni and Ugandans on the victory day, urging continued support.
Minister Babirye Milly Babalanda praised contributions from Busoga during the struggle, and at least 52 individuals, including former Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki, received medals.
The day, celebrated annually on January 26th, marks the NRA/M government’s ascent to power in 1986 after a five-year people’s struggle.
