Kabale Diocese Seeks UGx 501 Million for Renovation of Rushoroza Cathedral

KABALE – Kabale Diocese is seeking for UGx 501 Million to refurbish the cathedral floor with terrazzo and replace the antiquated furniture dating back to 1946.

Remigio Byamukama, the Chairman of the Parish Council at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, made this financial plea during the centenary celebrations held at the cathedral grounds in Kabale Municipality yesterday. Byamukama emphasized the urgent need for the funds, highlighting the aged condition of the current cathedral furniture and the necessity to replace it while also upgrading the floor with terrazzo.

Engineer Didas Ndamira, spouse of Kabale District Woman MP Catherine Ndamira and the executive director of Vidas Engineering Service Company Limited, is overseeing the renovation project. He reported that significant progress has been made in renovating the church veranda, paving, and other exterior features. Ndamira said the next tasks involve replacing the outdated floor with terrazzo, estimated at 156 Million, and updating the old furniture, costing 345 Million according to the Bills of Quantities.

According to the Bills of Quantities, the cathedral requires 230 seats, each priced at 1.5 Million.

To support the renovation efforts, notable contributions were made by various dignitaries. President Museveni donated 50 Million, while Vice President Rtd Major Jessica Alupo contributed 15 Million. Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, David Bahati, and Finance Minister (General Duties) Henry Musasizi both donated 20 chairs each, valued at 30 Million.

Additionally, local MPs and community members joined the cause, with Kabale District Woman MP and Family contributing 5 chairs, Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba contributing 10 chairs, Kabale Municipality MP Nicholas Kamara contributing 2 chairs, among others.
