KISORO: Police in Kisoro District have arrested three suspects for questioning over the murder of Sunday Calist, a 54-year-old teacher at Keyihumure Primary school and resident of Nyakarembe village, Kagunga Parish in Bukimbiri Sub County.
The suspects identified as Bagyenyi Gerald (35), Monday Ezra (38), and Arinaitwe Thomas (40), all hail from Birara village, Kagunga Parish, Bukimbiri Sub County in Kisoro District.
According to a police statement, at approximately 3:00 AM yesterday, the suspects purportedly visited the home of the deceased, who was asleep in bed with his wife. They informed him that one of their fellow residents, Nyirabyiringiro Allen, was severely ill. Adhering to their community norm, they claimed they had come to inform him so they could transport the patient to the hospital.
Believing their story, the deceased exited his house and accompanied them under the pretense of aiding the sick individual. The wife of the deceased witnessed and recognized the suspects as they called out to her husband and left with him.
However, sensing something amiss with her husband’s abrupt departure, the wife decided to trail them. She followed them to the residence of Agaba Ezra, approximately 100 meters away, where they purportedly claimed to have a vehicle. To her horror, she discovered her husband’s lifeless body lying in front of Agaba Ezra’s house.
Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, confirmed the incident, stating that the case was reported at Bukimbiri Police Post around 9:00 AM. He indicated that the crime scene was examined and processed, a postmortem conducted at the scene revealing severe head wounds on the deceased’s body. The body was subsequently released to the relatives for a dignified burial.
