KABALE: The Kabale District Internal Security Officer Lauben Mutabazi has directed security operatives that conduct patrols at night to shoot disable and disarm everybody that will be red-handedly caught stealing and vandalizing the solar panels and batteries along major streets in Kabale Municipal.

Mutabazi made the directive on Friday while representing the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma at the official handover of the Kabale Central Market. He said that despite several interventions by the Kabale Municipality authorities and the District security Committee, some culprits have continued to steal and vandalize the panels and batteries which has driven the government into financial losses. Over 30 solar panels and batteries have been vandalized and stolen from Kabale Municipality in a period of four months.

Last year, Kabale Municipal Authorities came up with suggestions which among others include engraving all steel property installed along the streets, putting a prize ranging from 500,000-1,000,000 shillings for everybody who will report any culprit of vandalism. Security subsequently banned scrap dealing in the district to curb the vice but the measures according to Mutabazi have all been in vain.
