KABALE: The 23.8 Billion Shillings Kabale Central Market in Kabale Municipality is struggling to attract customers, despite being in operation for one year.

Constructed by the Chinese Chong Chuing International Construction Company under the World Bank-funded Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program – MATIP III, the market boasts 1,119 lockups and stalls, along with essential amenities such as a dining hall, a health facility, and a kindergarten. However, since vendors relocated in January 2023, more than 100 lockups have remained closed.

Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, the Mayor of Kabale Municipality, acknowledges that the market has not fully lived up to expectations as the primary source of income in Kabale. He suggests convening a meeting with vendors to brainstorm solutions to ensure the market operates as intended.
