NTUNGAMO: The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, received a resounding reception in Ntungamo District on Thursday.
Overwhelmed by the warm welcome, Kyagulanyi expressed his gratitude by saying, “Mwebare Munonga Baramu Bangye,” which translates to “A big thank you to my in-laws.”
Kyagulanyi remarked, “While many assume that conditions in Western Uganda are favorable, the reality is that only a few, primarily those connected to the regime, are doing well.”
He emphasized that the majority in Western Uganda are as poor and desperate as those in other parts of the country.
He urged the people to challenge this false narrative by joining other oppressed Ugandans in pushing for change.
Addressing a rally at Standard College Market grounds, Kyagulanyi encouraged Ntungamo residents to engage in peaceful protests to demand their rights and ensure their message reaches the current government.
He cited the successful protests in Nairobi as a model for Ugandans, stressing the importance of non-violence in their struggle.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to non-violence and its aim to serve the people of Uganda, emphasizing that leaders are there to serve the voters, who should remain the ultimate authority.

Accompanied by NUP Secretary General Lewis Lubongoya, Mityana MP Francis Zaake, and other party leaders, Kyagulanyi was warmly welcomed by the community. The procession through Ntungamo town lasted nearly an hour and a half, temporarily halting traffic along the Mbarara-Kabale highway. Despite the large gathering, the NUP team encountered no police interference.
Kyagulanyi and his team are expected to hold a mobilization rally in Isingiro District today (Friday).
