RUKUNGIRI: The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament Hopeful, Nuwagaba Annah Tumuramye, has encouraged the members of the Rwamugoma Boda Boda Association to adopt weekly savings in order to build a stronger financial foundation.
Tumuramye made this appeal while addressing members of the Nyaruzinga Boda Boda Stage Association in Rwamarenegye Cell, Rwamugoma Parish, Ruhinda Sub-county.
Her remarks came in response to an update from Newton Tugume, the stage chairperson. Tugume explained that the 60-member association currently saves 3,000 UGX per month.
These funds are used to support members in need of emergency loans or to cover funeral expenses. However, due to the limited savings, the association can only offer short-term loans, which restricts its ability to make a significant impact.
While commending the current saving efforts, Tumuramye emphasized that 3,000 UGX per month is insufficient for meaningful growth.
She advised the group to consider switching to weekly savings to expedite the expansion of their fund and increase its utility.
Tumuramye pointed out that saving weekly would help members reach long-term goals more quickly, such as purchasing their own boda boda motorcycles.
She also urged them to take out loans not just for immediate needs but for investments that would lead to sustainable development.
In addition, Tumuramye pledged her continued support for community initiatives, including associations and infrastructure projects like the improvement of local roads.
