A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 18-year-old wife following a domestic dispute in Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro District.
The deceased has been identified as Denise Ntezimana, a resident of Gikoro Village, Chihe Parish, Nyakinama Sub County. According to police, she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Brian Irakiza, and died instantly on Thursday at around 4:00 PM.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been married for just one month and were living together. The deceased was reportedly working as a barmaid.
According to police reports, the incident was triggered when Ntezimana refused to cook food for her husband. A violent altercation followed, leading to her death.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He said that the matter was reported by the area chairman, John Nzabanita. Police visited and documented the crime scene, recorded statements from several witnesses, and transported the body to Kisoro Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Maate further confirmed that the suspect, Brian Irakiza, has been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.
