President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday intensified his presidential campaign in the Lango Sub-region with large crowds turning up for rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, who is canvassing support under the 2026–2031 Manifesto theme “Protecting the Gains,” was praised by local leaders for restoring peace and steering development in Northern Uganda.

In Amolatar, NRM District Chairperson Kamilo Olwit credited the President for defeating armed insurgencies, ending cattle rustling, and delivering key infrastructure projects such as Lira University, the ongoing construction of Akii-Bua Stadium, and major road upgrades.

Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, also thanked Museveni for restoring stability in a region previously crippled by insecurity.

“In the past, it would take us a week to travel to Soroti due to insecurity. Today Uganda is peaceful because of your leadership,” Among said.

Addressing the rally, President Museveni cautioned against relying solely on government infrastructure and social services, saying true transformation lies in household wealth creation.

“Infrastructure, schools, health centres and electricity are all dongo lobo (development), but lonyo (wealth) is what removes poverty from each home,” he told the crowd. “At Independence, only 9% of Ugandans were in the money economy. Even by 2013, 68% were still producing only for subsistence. That’s why I started Operation Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model.”

Museveni pledged to recruit 50,000 more teachers to address shortages in government schools and abolish illegal school charges. He also vowed to intensify the fight against corruption, including theft of public drugs.

At his second rally in Dokolo, the President announced plans to upgrade the Dokolo–Namasale road to reduce travel time to Kampala. While acknowledging government investment in infrastructure, he again stressed that every household must engage in income-generating activities.

“Even in Baralege where I live, I may not have tarmac roads, but I have cows, coffee, and fruits. That is wealth,” he said, highlighting testimonies from Parish Development Model beneficiaries who moved from subsistence to commercial farming.

NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda Hamson Obua and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong echoed the President’s message, urging residents to consolidate peace and development by adopting modern enterprise.
