The Uganda Police Force, in partnership with the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), has launched an awareness campaign on the prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Children (VAC) in Kamwenge District.
On Wednesday afternoon, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ignatius Otong, the Coordinator of Refugee Affairs, led a baraza with officers at Kamwenge Central Police Station alongside officials from the Child and Family Protection Department at Police Headquarters.
The engagement focused on improving response mechanisms, case handling, and coordination among police officers when dealing with GBV and VAC survivors.
ACP Otong urged officers to strengthen collaboration with communities and other stakeholders to ensure efficient case flow management.
He stressed that survivors must receive timely justice from the moment they report cases at any police station or outpost.
“Proper coordination ensures that victims do not suffer secondary trauma. Every officer must handle such cases with urgency, confidentiality, and compassion,” Otong said.
The campaign is part of ongoing national efforts to improve policing standards in handling gender and child-related offences.
