The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has officially presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited Grace Villa Ubuntu Resource Center.
The event took place at the Grace Villa compound in Kigongi Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality on Tuesday. Funded by Ubuntu International and other well-wishers, the new building, valued at 995 million Uganda shillings, will be constructed by Murumba & Company Construction Ltd.
The resource center will feature 15 accommodation rooms, a recreational center, a playground, and improved access roads, among other facilities.
During the ceremony, Bishop Akanjuna urged children to remain disciplined, avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their future, and remember their roots.
He encouraged them to one day help other girls facing similar challenges.
Grace Villa Executive Director Ruth Kendegye Ndyabahika said the organization currently supports 215 girls, 35 of whom reside full-time at the facility. She noted that about 47 million shillings are spent per school term on fees.
Ndyabahika explained that the new resource center was conceived after realizing the current house could no longer accommodate the growing number of beneficiaries.
Eng. Mathias Murumba, Managing Director of Murumba & Company Construction Ltd, pledged to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism during the project.
He emphasized a zero-tolerance approach to any abuse of the girl child and committed to safeguarding girls’ rights at all stages of construction.
Kabale Assistant Resident District Commissioners Christmas Turyomurugyendo and Martin Niwataho praised Grace Villa for its tangible impact on vulnerable girls.
Turyomurugyendo expressed disappointment with some NGOs whose programs “only end on paper or laptops,” urging them to emulate Grace Villa’s model.
