A Kenyan truck driver and an unidentified male passenger have died in a fatal road accident along the Kabale–Mbarara highway in Kabale District.
The deceased driver, Munyike Benja Kalinga, a resident of Kwale Chengoni in Kenya, was driving a white FAW truck, registration KDN 874C, when the crash occurred on Thursday evening at Kyanamira Trading Centre in Kyanamira Sub- County.
According to police, the truck lost control, rammed into a Toyota Spacio, and overturned several times, killing Kalinga and the male passenger on the spot. The Toyota Spacio was also extensively damaged.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying traffic officers from Kabale Central Police Station visited the scene, documented evidence, and transferred the bodies to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Maate added that officers were deployed to secure the wreckage as towing arrangements were underway.
He said preliminary investigations point to careless driving by the truck driver as the likely cause of the accident, though inquiries are still ongoing.
