Residents of Bugarama Parish in Kaharo Sub- County, Kabale District have appealed to Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba, who is seeking re-election as an independent, to lobby the government for funding to improve the road network in their area.

The call was led by Narisencio Bitwire, LC1 Chairperson of Nkongoro Village, during Niwagaba’s campaign rally held on Wednesday at the Kikyekye Polling Station in Kikyenkye Village, Bugarama Parish.

Bitwire cited the Kyobugombe–Kisiizi Road, which links Kabale to Rukiga District, saying it is in a deplorable condition and requires urgent intervention. He noted that although district authorities have attempted to rehabilitate the road, progress has been hampered by the absence of a bulldozer capable of breaking through a large hard rock formation along the route.

He said the poor state of the road has made it difficult for farmers to transport cash crops such as cabbages, Irish potatoes and maize from their gardens to markets, affecting household incomes.

In his response, Niwagaba acknowledged the concern but said the responsibility for maintaining district roads lies with the Kabale District authorities, who receive road maintenance funds to keep roads functional and safe.

Meanwhile, at various campaign rallies, Niwagaba urged candidates in the Ndorwa East race to embrace mature and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2026 elections. He criticized rivals for resorting to insults instead of presenting clear development plans to voters.

He expressed disappointment that some politicians were using their platforms to hurl abuse rather than explain their manifestos or outline what they intend to deliver if elected.

Niwagaba also defended his past record, including the distribution of hoes and forked hoes to households, dismissing claims that the tools were of poor quality. He challenged critics to suggest better alternatives instead of maligning efforts aimed at supporting local communities.

He reiterated his commitment to lobbying for more development projects in the constituency, highlighting road infrastructure and youth empowerment as key priorities.
