Police in Kasese are hunting for suspects after the body of a 35-year-old casual worker was found dumped along the Kasese-Kilembe Road.
The body of Sereka Swalid, a resident of Acholi Quarters Cell in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, was discovered behind rail guards at Katonzi Cell, Nyakabingo III Ward in Bulembia Division on the morning of September 18.
Rwenzori East regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said police were notified and visited the scene with a sniffer dog to establish how the deceased reached the area.
“The canine tracked for about 150 metres and stopped where there were motor vehicle tyre marks, an indication that he could have been murdered elsewhere and transported to the scene,” Maate said.
The body was taken to Kasese Municipality Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem.
Police said Swalid had burns on the right side of his body, stretching from the right ribs to the right arm and leg.
According to police, the deceased was known for roasting meat, commonly known as muchomo, along Mariana Street in Kasese Municipality.
Maate said investigations were ongoing to establish the motive of the suspected murder and identify those responsible.
He urged anyone with information that could help police trace the suspects to come forward.
