RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old man.
The victim, Mwijukye Innocent, is suspected to have been killed by a mob sometime between Monday and Tuesday night in Kirondo cell, Rwamugoma Parish, Ruhinda Sub County.
Innocent, a resident of Rwamarengye cell, Rwamugoma Parish, Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri District, was found dead yesterday at approximately 8:00 AM. His lifeless body was discovered in a tree plantation by pupils on their way to school.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi region Police, reported that the Police received notification of the incident, promptly responded to the scene, and conducted an examination.
The Deputy Scene of Crime Officer (D/soco), Deputy Criminal Investigations Officer (D/CIO), Deputy Crime Intelligence and Detection Officer (D/CIDO), along with a team of homicide detectives, documented the scene and a case of murder by a mob was officially registered at Ruhinda Police Station under SD REF: 04/28/11/2023.
Maate further disclosed that the victim’s body has been transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
