Christians of Kakore Rugambwa Catholic Parish in Rubanda District on Sunday commended the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira, for spearheading sustainable development through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF).

The BAAF initiative, launched in 2009, brings together thousands of Catholics across the six districts of Kabale Diocese, Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, Rukungiri, Kisoro and Kanungu, to raise funds for key infrastructure projects.

Rubanda District Woman MP aspirant, Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda, led the tributes, describing Bishop Rubaramira as a visionary leader whose legacy will shape the socio-economic future of Kigezi.

“Through BAAF, Bishop Callistus is laying a foundation for sustainable development that will live on for generations. I’m inspired to follow his example even before I’m elected to Parliament,” Kikafunda said while addressing Christians during the 2025 BAAF Climax event at Kakore Parish.

Kikafunda also showcased her own community interventions in line with the BAAF spirit. These include lobbying for 100 computers for St. Agatha Girls Secondary School Kakore, donating 5,000 tree seedlings, distributing 450 wheelchairs, organizing medical camps that treated over 7,000 people, and providing over 2,000 goats to women’s groups.

As part of her contribution to the event, she donated Shs. 7.5 million and 100kg of rice to support the gathering.

The fundraising drive collected Shs. 160.9 million, according to Chief Guest Dr. Joseph Byamugisha, who alone mobilized Shs. 39 million, including Shs. 10 million from State Minister of Finance, Hon. Henry Musasizi.

The funds will go toward completing a church commercial building in Hamurwa Subcounty, along the Kabale–Kisoro road, while the remainder will support the elevation of Kibuzigye Catholic Sub-Parish in Hamuhambo Town Council to full parish status.

Unlike previous editions which focused on major diocesan projects such as St. Ignatius University Kabale, Radio Maria Kabale, Centenary Bank branches, and health facilities, this year’s BAAF allowed parishes to mobilize for local development needs.

Presiding over Mass before the fundraising, Monsignor John Vianney Sunday, the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, emphasized the pillars of BAAF as apostolate work, spiritual growth, charity and support for Church leadership.

Kakore Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Maniragaba Deusdedit, revealed that their target is Shs. 200 million, noting that they had already collected Shs. 70 million before the climax event.

“We are humbled that the Bishop has allowed us to use his name in fundraising for our parish projects,” he said.
