A total of 38 cows, 70 goats, and 15 sheep were slaughtered at Kabale Municipal Abattoir during the Christmas festivities, marking a decline in slaughter numbers compared to last year.
According to the abattoir caretaker, Jackson Ninsiima Majugo, the figures were significantly lower than those recorded during the 2024 Christmas season, when 58 cows, 120 goats, and 10 sheep were slaughtered.
Ninsiima attributed the decline to a reduced supply of animals on the market this year, noting that fewer traders brought livestock for slaughter compared to the previous festive season.

He further observed that the number of customers purchasing meat also dropped, largely due to economic hardships affecting many households. Ninsiima explained that some residents chose to join saving groups and slaughter their own animals instead of buying meat from the abattoir.
Despite the reduced activity during the festive season, Ninsiima noted that meat prices remained stable, with beef retailing at 15,000 shillings per kilogram.
