KABALE: The Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Godfrey Nyakahuma, has raised concerns about school heads who fail to emphasize the importance of Patriotism training for students, a practice that could help them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of their country.

While presiding over the passing out of 1,500 Patriots at St. Mary’s College – Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality on Saturday, RDC Nyakahuma explained that involving students in Patriotism training offers an opportunity for them to learn about self-sacrifice for their country when necessary.

He highlighted that these programs expose young people, especially in secondary schools and tertiary institutions, to the country’s natural wealth and resources, which have long been underutilized due to the colonial education system inherited by Uganda.

He emphasized that such training also encourages a change in mindset, empowering students to maximize the exploitation of these resources, which is key to driving the nation’s socioeconomic transformation and industrialization.

Nyakahuma called on school heads to be patriotic leaders and guide students in understanding the country’s resources while fostering a stronger national identity.

He added, “With time, we are working to engage them, and I know the government is also striving to ensure that Patriotism becomes an integral part of our educational curriculum. Though it challenges our colonial past, we are committed to promoting Patriotism and educating our youth on the significant harm caused by the colonial academic system.”
