The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, has called for collective efforts to combat the rising tide of corruption in Uganda.
Speaking during Eid Al-Adha prayers at Masjid Jaamia Kirigime Mosque in Kabale Municipality, Hon. Atwakiire urged all Ugandans to take an active role in reporting suspected cases of corruption and the embezzlement of public funds.
Her remarks came in response to sentiments expressed by the Kabale Muslim District Council Chairperson, Hajji Issa Tindyebwa, who condemned the practice of job bribery, where employment opportunities are given to the highest bidder rather than the most qualified candidates.
Hon. Atwakiire emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation about the dangers of corruption, noting its detrimental impact on national development. She stressed that instilling anti-corruption values in children will help raise a generation that understands the vice’s consequences and is more likely to reject it.

Meanwhile, Hajji Tindyebwa called for harsher penalties against those found guilty of embezzling public funds. He highlighted the need for a merit-based approach to employment, rewarding individuals based on qualifications, experience, and integrity, rather than through bribery or personal connections.
He warned that continued corruption and nepotism would prevent communities from getting effective and accountable leaders who serve the interests of all Ugandans.
