KISORO: Police in Kisoro District are actively hunting for Bufumbira North MP, John Kamara Nizeyimana, over allegations of ballot stuffing at the Busanani polling station during the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Honorable Kamara allegedly seized ballot books from the presiding officers at Busanani polling station and inserted pre-ticked ballots into the ballot box. As of press time, Maate stated that police were pursuing Kamara with the intent to arrest him to facilitate further investigation into the matter.

Maate also reported that seven suspects have been arrested for involvement in isolated incidents of violence allegedly incited by intoxicated voters supporting certain candidates.

In response, Honorable Kamara denied the ballot-stuffing allegations and demanded an apology from Maate, accusing him of spreading false information to the public.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Grace Ngabirano Akifeza accused Honorable Kamara of confiscating her polling agents’ phones and stuffing pre-ticked ballots into the ballot boxes.

A total of six candidates are contesting in the Kisoro Woman MP by-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, who passed away in September. The candidates include NRM’s Rose Kabagyeni, Independent candidate Grace Ngabirano Akifeza, Salim Sultana (NUP), Aisha Cyimpaye (PPP), Juliet Musanase (FDC), and Mable Ingabire (UPC).
