Man Found Dead After Allegedly Ingesting Rat Poison in Kabale Stadium

Police in Kabale District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide of a 30-year-old man, identified as Anthony Twesigye, a resident of Rukidi Street, Bazaar Parish, Southern Division, Fort Portal Municipality.

Twesigye is believed to have died after allegedly consuming rat poison. His body was discovered on Sunday at an unknown time in Kabale Municipal Stadium, located in Central Cell, Central Ward, Central Division of Kabale District.

According to police reports, at around 7:52 PM, two men who had gone to the stadium for leisure found Twesigye’s body lying on the green grass next to the stadium’s perimeter wall. The incident was promptly reported to Kabale Police Station.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that police officers visited the scene, documented it, and conducted an examination. During a search of the deceased’s body, officers recovered a national identity card bearing the name Anthony Twesigye and a sachet of a brown substance suspected to be rat poison. The sachet reportedly had a picture of a rat, leading investigators to suspect suicide.

The body was retrieved from the scene and transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
