The incumbent Member of Parliament for Ndorwa East Constituency, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, has announced plans to launch a project aimed at empowering Boda Boda riders who do not own the motorcycles they ride.
He made the revelation on Wednesday while launching his re-election campaign ahead of the 2026 general elections in Kyanamira Sub County.
Hon. Niwagaba explained that the first phase of the project will support 400 riders to acquire motorcycles through a savings and top-up model.
He said the initiative will help riders form associations, receive training in savings management, and benefit from financial top-ups to enable them to purchase motorcycles.
He added that he has already partnered with Lyamujungu SACCO to ensure that every rider can eventually own a motorcycle. The project will target 100 riders from each of the four Sub-counties in Ndorwa East, with 13 motorcycles allocated to each Sub-county annually.
According to Niwagaba, the initiative is designed to tackle youth unemployment and boost household incomes across the constituency.
He further urged residents to embrace cash crop farming, particularly Arabica coffee and avocados, as a reliable pathway to poverty eradication and income improvement.
“Growing high-value crops like coffee and avocados can help households access steady cash flow and lift themselves out of poverty,” he said.
Niwagaba also encouraged the youth to take advantage of employment opportunities in agriculture and manufacturing, emphasizing that agricultural income is tax-free.
